The plan was to climb Mellbreak from the Lowswater end (NT Car park) and return via the shores of Crummock water. After dropping the grand-kids off at their other grandparents in Workington I headed for Lowswater, only to find the road into the village closed due to a serious accident. Plan B was to drive to the car park at Lanthwaite Green farm and pick up the footpath through the woods towards Lowswater. A Saturday afternoon in August....car park absolutely rammed !!. Plan C - do the walk from Buttermere. Thanks to the kind car park attendant in the NT car park he guided mr into the last parking spot.
So, eventually I was on my way from Buttermere via Scales Bridge.
The route was straightforward, and once at the summit (south top) I had a wander over to the north top which is a few metres lower.

Track up to Mellbreak. For a relatively small fell the way up is steep. |
