My right anke outside tendon is still paiful, so this walk ended in a short there and back trek - a mere 5 miles.
Starting from the Cat and Fiddle pub on the A537 I set off onto the moor around 8:30 in thick mist. Navigation was easy as the path is well trodden. Over the road at Dane Bower where there is a well preserved chimney which was part of the Danebower Colliery engine house. The colliery closed in 1922. At this point in the walk the mist had lifted.
From here ,I dropped down the valley and followed the River Dane on a good track to the Three Shires Head.
| Fabulous spot for breakfast |
After eating I decided to head back the same way - my foot was still painful. At least on the return journay I would get to walk across the moor in clear weather.
| Shining Tor - highest point in Cheshire |
5 miles OS24 White Peak. A short but lovely walk.
