Houndkirk Moor - Stanage Edge July 28th 2021

Second warm up walk this week. This one definitely a bit more challenging than Mondays wander around Carsington.

I parked at Upper Burbage Bridge and started the walk along the track below Burbage Rocks.

Burbage Brook valley

Looking across the valley to Higger Tor

At a left junction in the path I headed up to Houndkirk Road.

Houndkirk Road

There is a great view of Sheffield from here. Leaving Houndkirk Road I turned left to walk along the edge of Lady Cannings Plantation. At the end of this I crossed Ringinglow Road and the track then heads across some open moorland to reach Fullwood Lane. A short section of road walk then leads to the path across the side of Rud Hill and open moorland overlooking Redmires Resevoir.

At the end of the moorland section the path turns left and climbs up to Stanedge Pole (that is the spelling from the map), and then eventually reached Stanage Edge, and back to Upper Burbage Bridge. No photos from this point as I headed into a full on electrical storm - horizontal rain, hailstones bouncing of the rocks, and scary thunder and lightning (as Stanage Edge is the highest ground at this point). My jacket kept the top half dry, but no waterproof trousers , so shorts, legs and feet soaked. It was an awsome spectacle to walk through.

Another great prep walk for next week.

Approx 9 miles OS OL1
