We drove up to the YHA at Pen Y Pass in boiling hot weather. When we arrived we got lucky. The YHA doesn't have a car park and the main car park is bookings only, and even if they had space it was £40 for 24 hours. We found one space at the small layby across the road - so free car parking for the duration.☺ We booked in and then sat out side at a picnic bench ...beer and mountains all around...happy days.
Eventually, we waved the white flag to the Welsh midges - not as hard as Scottish midges, but they wouldn't give in.
After, a big breakfast, we got ready for the walk, and unfortunately, after all the hot , clear weather the conditions were clag, wind and rain.
The Pyg Track is a great mountain trail to the top. Unfortunately, no views of Crib Goch to the right and the lakes to the left, so no pictures to post. After a rough, tough 2.5 hours we arrived at the top.
I managed to convince Rowan to descend via the LLanberis tourist path (I didn't fancy the knee smashing descent via the Pyg track/ miners track). Gradually, the clag lifted as we descended.
A terrific walk, which given the weather we will definitely have to repeat.
