Lonscale Fell 15/04/2019

In clear conditions this was a straightforward route :-

Gale Road car park - Skiddaw tourist path (zig zag) - turn right at the junction to Little Man - Jenkin Hill - Lonscale Fell.

On the way up the zig zags

Bakestall - Great Calva 08/04/2019

Stopped at Gillside campsite at Glenriddings the night before. Managed to get a reasonable nights sleep with my new futon rather than the inflatable bouncy castle bed !!. However, it was quite cold in the early hours of the morning. Pot of porridge and a cup of tea and I was on my way up the A66 towards Keswick.

The jump off point for this walk was Peter House Farm on the minor road up to Orthwaite.

This main part of the route was the excellent supply track to Skiddaw House Hostel as far as the top of the lower White Water Dash falls.

From there ,it was the steep slog up Birkett Edge to the summit of Bakestall.

Back down the the supply road and after a few hundred yards there is a sharp right turn where a footpath leads the track and heads up the flank of Little Calva. This was a steep climb through the heather with the right next to the fence. From there it was a case of following the fence all the way to the top of Little Calva (with a slight detour up a small gulley). From Little Calva , Great Calva is prominently ahead across some fairly boggy ground (I believe the technical term is Morass).

Clough Head 07/04/2019

Well, I have failed to get to this summit an a couple of occasions, so it was great to finally 'bag it' on the third try. This was also significant in that it was the final summit of the Eastern Fells.

The route started at High Row and followed the Old Coach Road before leaving to climb Clough head via White Pike. The only slight snag was that there was no stile in the fence where I needed to leave the main track. A kind couple of walkers helped me to get Meg over the fence. On the way back I dropped down to Meriel Bridge where there was a gate in the fence.

The couple who helped me with Meg offered for me to join them on a loop around to Great Dodd and back to High Brow, but I declined, and opted to head back the same way, and get some lunch on the way down. A lovely walk, in perfect conditions.
