Black Rock 5th February 2020

A nice straightforward walk from Cromford Wharf , along the canal , and then up the high Peak trail as far as the Stone Centre, and then returning by the same route with the exception of a loop around Black Rock joining the High Peak trail lower down.

I used my new walking poles fro the first time. They are a big improvement on the cheap and cheerful  poles I have used for years. Lighter and so much easier to quickly adjust. Plus they have the second which are grips below the main grip and allows you to have the poles both the same length but adjust your grip on one pole if (say) walking along the contour of a hill.

A lovely wander in excellent conditions. About 6 miles. OS OL24.

Horsley Castle Jan 21st 2020

This is a lovely local walk apart from the mud bath at Brackley Gate Farm. I'll have to figure out if there is an alternative return route.

Birchen Edge Jan 10th 2020

Finally opened my account for 2020 with one of my favorite Derbyshire walks (just over a year since I last did this wander).

I really enjoyed this walk but for the last couple of miles I was getting tired.... a definite sign I need to do more to get fit.

Shipley Park Circuit 7th Jan 2020

I have been doing lots of variations of this walk over the winter months. This was a bit longer, so I packed dome breakfast and brought my camera along.

Breakfast on Shipley Hill - flask of tea and a sandwich....lovely.

I know this doesn't count as a 'hike' , but it is a brilliant start to a day. No driving, 6.5 miles, breakfast , and back for lunch.
