Coledale Horseshoe 24th September 2025

After a short drive from the campsite I was at the small car park on the Whinlatter road out of Braithwaite by 8:15. By 8:20 my leg muscles were starting to burn!!. The climb to the top of Grisedale pike was relentless all the way to the top. I was rewarded with jaw dropping views all the way up.

On the way up looking across the valley

The route after Grisedale Pike was Hopegill Head, Sand Hill, Crag Hill, Sail, Outerside, Stile End - Braithwaite.

I stopped for a rest at Coledale Hause with amazing views back down the valley.

I stopped at the village shop in Braithwaite and enjoyed a cold ginger beer before making my way back to the van
This was about a perfect days walking as you could wish for. Sunny but not hot, no wind, clear with superb views all the way around. 5 Wainwrights and two minor peaks. A memorable day.

About 10 miles.

Latrigg 23rd September 2025

Two days in the Lake District. I was going to meet up with Richard but unfortunately he couldn't make it. I arrived around 1:00 at the C&C site at Keswick. Long queue to get in the site but once I was in and sett the van up it was a lovely spot. A few hundred yards into the town centre. As a warm up walk for tomorrow's epic I decided on the there and back hike to the top of Latrigg.

Some great views from the top. I had a play with the filters on the camera , therefore some different looking pics.

A brilliant warm up walk. 5.8 miles. Had a lovely evening and good sleep in the van.

Baslow Edge - Birchen Edge 31/08;2025

Anne was volunteering on the Bee Keeping / Honey stall at Chatsworth Country fair, so I went along as a paying customer. We had a couple of hours looking around the show together before her shift started, at which I went off for a walk.

Same route as last time I was here. :-

  • Out of the park to Baslow
  • Up the hill (Bar Road)
  • Baslow Edge
  • Birchen Edge
  • Robin Hood pub
  • Back in the top edge of the estate.

As I got near to the estate I could hear gunfire which was clay pigeon shooting. dropping down to the show I was stopped by a show volunteer who informed me that I was trespassing in the firing range. Apparently there should have been signs on the entrances at the top end of the estate. After I explained there were no signs he let me in over the fence.

Weather was perfect for walking. About 8 miles. After all the walking within the show, my step count for the day was a few hundred steps short of 40,000.
